There are certain pockets of body fat that are unaffected by a healthy diet or even vigorous exercise. To remove these problematic deposits of fat, our Seattle and Bellevue area office performs liposuction. During liposuction, a narrow tube, or cannula, is inserted into the treatment area through small incisions. The fat is safely vacuumed from the body resulting in a slimmer or more proportionate profile. Given the nature of the procedure, post-surgical scarring is usually minimal. Liposuction is not meant to be performed as a weight loss treatment but rather a means for patients to shed the final problematic deposits of fat around the abdomen, buttocks, hips, knees, thighs, and neck. At times, Dr. Rand performs liposuction in combination with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) in order to provide patients with a comprehensive adjustment of their contour. There are some instances where a protruding tummy or loose abdominal skin will not be affected by diet or exercise. Working through these incisions, Dr. Rand adjusts and tightens the underlying abdominal muscles. The excess skin is removed after the abdominal muscles have been tightened. There will be a noticeable scar after tummy tuck surgery, but the scars are easily concealed by most bathing suits and the scar generally improves greatly with time.
