Juvederm

Juvederm injectable gel is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel used for the temporary correction of facial altlines, wrinkles and folds. There are different formulas of Juvederm suited for different purposes including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm Ultra XC.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body which acts as a hydrator and cushioning agent in the skin, holding water and delivering nutrients.  There are multiple wrinkle fillers on the market that contain hyaluronic acid including Restylane

How Juvederm Treatment Works

Juvederm is FDA approved for treating facial wrinkles and folds, especially those around the nose and mouth. Juvederm temporarily adds volume to facial tissue providing a smoother facial appearance. Dr. Rand injects Juvederm into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur. It temporarily adds volume to the skin and gives the appearance of a smoother surface.

Common wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lip lines and other imperfections are corrected. Most patients need just one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results can last about 6 months to 1 year.

To control discomfort during Juvederm injections, Dr. Rand uses a strong topical local anesthetic ointment and ice.

What are possible side effects of Juvederm?

The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is seven days or less. Just like any skin-injection procedure, there is a risk of infection.
