3 Ways to Prepare for a Facelift
“Put your best face forward,” is a common expression we use that means to put forth our very best effort and make a good impression. At our Seattle-based Northwest Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we also take this phrase literally, especially when working with our facelift patients.
The facelift in Seattle, or rhytidectomy, is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States, and has ranked in the top 10 procedures since 2002, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
A facelift is a cosmetic procedure where the facial skin and deeper tissues underneath are tightened to help create better-defined facial contours and remove sagging, wrinkled skin on the face and neck. A face-lift isn’t designed to treat a few fine lines, but to rejuvenate the overall look of the skin on your face, jawline, and neck that has lost elasticity.
Surgeons have different facelift techniques, but I approach most cases using what’s referred to as the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS). A SMAS facelift is a technique where a deep facial tissue layer that lies beneath the skin is modified to lift and improve your look without creating that windblown appearance that may occur by simply stretching the skin tighter over your neck and face. The results from a SMAS facelift are more natural. I invite you to check out our Face Lift Before & After Photo Gallery pictures to see the results of Seattle facelift patients.
Here are three ways women and men can prepare for a Facelift in Seattle:
1. Quit smoking — Smoking constricts your blood vessels and may result in blood clots, which can be quite dangerous to your health. You’ll want to be in your best physical shape so that your face and body can heal as quickly as possible.
2. Take extra care of your skin — Using high-quality facial care products will help maintain the health and elasticity of your skin’s condition and elasticity before and after your facelift.
3. Maintain a steady, healthy weight — Keep your health and weight stable to avoid any changes in appearance. This also ensures that your surgery and recovery go smoothly.
